We all have to start somewhere. A set of bathroom scales will give you a clear indication of where your 90 day plan journey begins. There’s no shame in whatever number shows up. You are taking positive steps to make a change.

Many gyms, GP surgeries or pharmacies may have a set of scales that you can use initially. However, you may consider purchasing a set of bathroom scales for your home. 

Digital Bathroom Scales: To provide more informative results, consider a scale that measures weight, body fat percentage, BMI, bone density and muscle mass. These types of scales can be particularly helpful in showing a more rounded view of your overall health. Especially if your weight is only moving slightly as your journey progresses.

As part of the 90 day plan assessments, you will be asked to submit measurements for key areas of your body. Chest, hips, waist, arms and legs.

I love this A5 Food Diary from Amazon. It contains pages for planning your meals, tracking your measurements and weight loss and planning your exercise. There are sections to count off your daily water intake and to make sure you’re eating enough vegetables too.

Alternatively, you could use the plan and shop website. This will enable you to import your cycle PDF, build your weekly schedule and create your shopping list.

Once you have planned your meals for the week, the next thing you should think about is prepping like a boss. This is another key factor in creating a successful 90 day plan.

You’ll notice that most of the recipes included in your plan are quick and easy to prepare. Also, a lot of recipes can also be cooked in bulk and frozen for up to one month.

Stocking up on some food storage containers will be a lifesaver on your weekly prep days. Below are some options for your 90 day plan food storage.

Silicone reusable food storage bags: These silicone food storage bags are so versatile. They are made from food-grade materials and don’t contain any nasty chemicals. The great thing about them is that they can be used in the fridge and freezer. They are leak-proof and can be laid flat so that they take up less space wherever you store them.

I couldn’t have survived the 90 day plan without a blender!

Having a blender really will be a game-changer for you. We all love smoothies, right? And who doesn’t love the Peanut Butter and Jam smoothie in cycle one? The problem is that it’s really difficult to make without a blender. 

Even if you’re not a fan of the smoothies (though seriously, that PB&J is LIFE) you can also make up some pretty healthy soups using your ingredients from CYO, or chop some nuts for a whole range of recipes. 

Or if you’re a caffeine fiend like me (I’m not even sorry, I cannot give up that first coffee in the morning) you can grind some first-class coffee beans. 

So which blender do you choose? There is a range of blenders on the market ranging from around £50 to £130.

It’s no surprise that drinking water is beneficial for weight loss. Keeping well hydrated will help with digestion and muscle function. Not to mention that water is a natural appetite suppressant and can increase calorie burning.

Having read through your plan you will have noticed that you should be drinking a certain amount of water per day. At first, this can seem impossible, and you might be wondering how on earth will you be able to drink so much water? Don’t worry, your body will get used to it.

In order to hit your daily water target, you’ll need a water bottle. It doesn’t have to be flashy or expensive but something that you can easily carry around everywhere you go. 

I love these 2.2 litre bottles. Let’s be honest, EVERYONE on the 90 day plan should be drinking over 2 litres of water every day. These water bottles make it much easier to keep track and consume your water allowance. And they can be carried with you where ever you go. Win, win in my book.

10 Tools You Need For Your Successful 90 Day Plan: Suitable workout trainers

While it is possible to complete cycle one barefoot (which I really do not recommend), it would definitely not be advisable to carry out the other cycles without suitable footwear. Adding weights to your squats and lunges may result in knee pain (especially if your form isn’t great). Furthermore, the risk of greater injury would be significantly higher without appropriate footwear. For this reason, a solid pair of workout trainers are a necessary piece of equipment for the 90 day plan.

There is a whole range of trainers to choose from nowadays that can help to provide stability and prevent injury. However, whichever type or brand of trainer you choose will be down to personal preference and essentially, which types of exercises you are doing.

These are some of my favourite and most popular workout trainers:

Nike Zoom Air Superrep: designed for circuit training, HIIT, short runs and other fast-paced exercises. Nike Zoom Air combines in the forefoot with a wide, solid heel to help keep you moving and lifting comfortably.

Reebok Nano 9: Reebok Nano 9’s are an excellent cross-fit trainer. They provide a locked-in fit with midfoot support for stability during heavy lifting. The cushioning also offers comfort during long-distance running.

Essential Equipment For The 90 Day Plan: Fitness mat

A fitness mat is high up on my list of essential equipment for the 90 day plan. Yes, you could work through the whole 90 day plan without a fitness mat. However, a good mat will provide much-needed support for your hands and knees when carrying out floor-based exercises.

A fitness mat provides a cushioning between you and the floor. When you’re doing full chest to floor burpees they will absorb some of the impacts to avoid bruising your body.

A fitness mat won’t set you back too much but it will make your workouts more enjoyable. I use this mat when exercising. It’s durable, trainer proof – i.e it won’t shred to pieces when doing burpees, mountain climbers or plank thrusters.

And even more surprisingly it’s also immune to cat claw and bite marks (thanks to my youngest feline buddy for testing this one out). Best of all, it can be rolled up and stored away when not in use. Bonus! 

Essential Equipment For The 90 Day Plan: Weights

One of the most important pieces of equipment for the 90 day plan is a good set of weights.

Granted, you won’t need these immediately as weights will be introduced in cycle two. However, using weights will have a positive influence on your body. Building lean muscle not only provides definition to your body but will encourage your body to burn more calories because muscle is more metabolically active.

You don’t have to buy flashy racks with weights up to 150kgs for the plan. It’s more advisable to invest in a set of adjustable weights like the ones here. We use this same set and they are fantastic. It’s very easy to swap the weights around and combine for a barbell if you’d prefer that for some exercises.

If you’re new to weight training, you can start off on a lower weight to get your body used to lifting and exercising with weights. Then each week slightly increase the weight to ensure you are pushing your body and building more muscle. 


Starting your journey through the 90 day plan may seem exciting and daunting at the same time but if you plan carefully you will see the best results.
