Essential Equipment For The Body Coach 90 Day Plan

The most common desires in life are to lose weight and get fit. Starting a new fitness regime can be exciting but there is always a slight fear that you’re not doing it right.

Let’s face it, adding the latest gadgets won’t make you lose fat or build muscle. That comes from the effort you put into The 90 Day Plan. However, there are some pieces of equipment for The Body Coach 90 Day Plan that can help you to achieve your goals and make your life a lot easier.

Having done The Body Coach 90 Day Plan in 2020 and achieved results that I was very pleased with, I can recommend the below pieces of equipment that helped to make The Body Coach 90 Day Plan that little bit easier to follow.

Bathroom Scales

Let’s talk about weighing yourself. Whether you like them or not, bodyweight scales are an essential piece of equipment for any weight loss journey and they are something you will need to start The Body Coach 90 Day Plan.

We all have to start somewhere and I mentioned in my review of The Body Coach 90 Day Plan that you absolutely should NOT guess your starting weight.

The 90 Day Plan recipes are tailored to your specific caloric requirements and guessing your weight could impact your overall results.

A set of bathroom scales will give you a clear indication of your starting point. There is no shame in whatever numbers show up. You are taking positive steps to make a change in your life, but to do so you need to know your current weight.

You may be able to weigh yourself at many gyms, GP surgeries or pharmacies. However, there are benefits to having your own set of bodyweight scales.

Digital Bathroom Scales are an essential piece of equipment for The Body Coach 90 Day Plan and can provide more information about your body than just measuring your weight.

Consider a scale like this set of Bluetooth bodyweight scales to measure your weight, body fat percentage, BMI, bone density, total body water and muscle mass.

These scales can be particularly helpful in showing a more rounded view of your overall health. Especially if your weight is only moving slightly as your journey progresses.

Body Measuring Tape

As Part Of The Body Coach 90 Day Plan questionnaire you will be asked to submit your measurements for key areas of your body at the beginning of your plan and at the end of each cycle.

This is to help The Body Coach Support Heroes understand your body shape and to allow you to track your progress throughout The 90 Day Plan.

The measurements you will need to record include your chest, hips, waist, arms and legs.

As with your weight, you should not guess your measurements as this can affect your overall results. Therefore you will need a body measuring tape.

The great thing about measuring yourself is that even if the numbers on the scale aren’t moving very much, you may very well see other changes happening throughout your body.

A body measuring tape is one of the most important pieces of equipment for The Body Coach 90 Day Plan. Not only will it help you track your progress, but it will help to keep you motivated if you feel you’re not making ‘enough’ progress.

Digital Kitchen Scales

As the old saying goes “weight loss is made in the kitchen”. It’s true. Before The 90 Day Plan, you may have been eating healthy ingredients. However, your portion sizes could have been more than what your body actually needs to sustain itself.

There can be too much of a good thing.

Each of the recipes and ingredients in The 90 Day Plan is tailored to your specific requirements and it is important that you weigh out all ingredients for your recipes.

Therefore, you will need a sturdy, reliable set of digital kitchen scales.

A good set of kitchen scales will help to keep your portions under control. They will also give you confidence in knowing that you’re not eating back your calorie deficit.

I couldn’t imagine attempting my food prep without these digital kitchen scales. They are very reliable and measure in grams, lbs, oz, and ml. Whatever you’re making you can be assured these scales are measuring your quantities accurately.

Weekly Meal Plan

To stay on track with The 90 Day Plan and achieve the goals you want it is essential to plan your meals and workout schedule for the week ahead.

Your weight loss and fitness results are built on a number of factors. Including what you eat, when and how often you exercise. In all of these areas, consistency is key.

I’ve covered why weighing out your ingredients is important to make sure you don’t overeat. But it’s also really important to make sure you are eating a variety of meals each week.

Planning ahead will really help you to stick to the 90 Day Plan and help you to create a varied diet.

There are two key tools that will make this much easier than it sounds.

A magnetic weekly food planner that can be attached to your fridge door is a great help when you are meal prepping.

You can easily see all the recipes that you need to prep in advance. It can act as a reminder to avoid additional snacking when you’re bored.

Another great tool that can act in tandem or independently of the magnetic planner is this food diary.

It contains pages for planning your meals, tracking your measurements and weight loss and planning your exercise. There are sections to count off your daily water intake and to make sure you’re eating enough vegetables too.

The other bonus of this food diary is that you can take it with you wherever you go.

Food Storage Containers

Once you have decided what recipes you will eat on The 90 Day Plan, the next thing to think about is prepping like a boss.

You’ll notice that most of the recipes included in The 90 Day Plan are quick and easy to prepare. Also, a lot of recipes can also be cooked in bulk and frozen for up to one month.

Stocking up on food storage containers and microwaveable storage boxes will be a lifesaver on your weekly prep days. They are essential pieces of equipment for The Body Coach 90 Day Plan and I couldn’t have completed the plan without them.

Silicone food storage bags are versatile and can store both solids and liquids easily in your fridge or freezer. They are made from food-grade materials and don’t contain any harsh chemicals. They are leak-proof and can be laid flat so that they take up less space wherever you store them.

Food storage boxes are very handy if you eat a lot of meals on the go, or take meals to work with you. They have airtight lids with a steam release vent meaning they can be easily used in the microwave. They’re leak-proof so you don’t need to worry about food spilling in transit.

Large food storage containers are an essential space-saving item if you plan on making recipes such as granola, or storing ingredients like pasta, rice, nuts and seeds.

Blender & Food Processor

It would be nearly impossible to complete The 90 Day Plan without a blender or food processor.

Having a blender or food processor will be a game-changer for you. There are lots of delicious recipes that require the use of a blender or processor such as smoothies, soups, and snacks.

Tipped as the best blender on the market, the Ninja 3 in 1 Food Processor helps you to create silky smoothies, healthy breakfast drinks, crushed ice cocktails, sorbets, and delicious desserts.

You can use the 2.1L blending jug to make enough to share or simply blend straight into the single-serve cups to enjoy your beverage on the go. The simple controls provide ease of use with one-touch automatic controls, or you can switch to manual settings.

NutriBullet is a very popular, powerful blender in the UK. It is particularly great at breaking down fruits, vegetables, seeds nuts and ice for delicious smoothies. It’s an incredibly easy tool to use, just twist the cup to lock it into place and the NutriBullet will do the hard work. The cups are both dishwasher safe and BPA Free.

The Breville Blend-Active is a single portion blender that comes with two sports bottles, giving your one portion fruit smoothies, breakfast drinks, and protein drinks. This blender is ideal if you want to take your drinks to the gym or work with you.

Water Bottle

It’s no surprise that drinking water is beneficial for weight loss. Keeping well hydrated will help with digestion and muscle function. Not to mention that water is a natural appetite suppressant and can increase calorie burning.

Having read through The 90 Day Plan you will have noticed that you should be drinking a certain amount of water per day. At first, this can seem impossible, and you might be wondering how on earth will you be able to drink so much water? Don’t worry, your body will get used to it.

In order to hit your daily water target, you’ll need a water bottle. It doesn’t have to be flashy or expensive but something that you can easily carry around everywhere you go.

Everyone on The 90 Day Plan should be drinking more than 2 liters of water each day. These 2.2-liter water bottles make it a little bit easier to guarantee your daily water consumption and help you to track your water allowance.

Suitable Footwear

While it is possible to complete cycle one barefoot (which I really do not recommend), it would definitely not be advisable to carry out the other cycles without suitable footwear.

Adding weights to your squats and lunges may result in knee pain (especially if your form isn’t great). Furthermore, the risk of greater injury would be significantly higher without appropriate footwear.

For this reason, a solid pair of workout trainers are a necessary piece of equipment for The Body Coach 90 Day Plan.

There is a whole range of trainers to choose from nowadays that can help to provide stability and prevent injury. However, whichever type or brand of trainers you choose will be down to personal preference and essentially, which types of exercises you are doing.

Here are some options to choose from:

Nike Zoom Air Superrep are designed for circuit training, HIIT, short runs and other fast-paced exercises. Nike Zoom Air combines in the forefoot with a wide, solid heel to help keep you moving and lifting comfortably.

Nike Metcon 5 are designed for heavy lifting with traction made for speed and durability where you need it. If you need a solid, reliable shoe for weight lifting and high impact training, the Nike Metcon 5 are your secret weapon.

Reebok Nano 9 are an excellent cross-fit trainer. They provide a locked-in fit with midfoot support for stability during heavy lifting. The cushioning also offers comfort during long-distance running.

Fitness Mat

A fitness mat is an essential piece of equipment for The Body Coach 90 Day Plan. A good exercise mat will provide much-needed support for your hands and knees when carrying out floor-based exercises.

A fitness mat provides a cushioning between you and the floor. When you’re doing full chest to floor burpees they will absorb some of the impacts to avoid bruising your body.

A fitness mat won’t set you back too much but it will make your workouts more enjoyable. I use this mat when exercising, it’s durable, trainer proof – i.e it won’t shred to pieces when doing burpees, mountain climbers or plank thrusters.

And even more surprisingly it’s also immune to cat claw and bite marks (thanks to my youngest feline buddy for testing this one out). Best of all, it can easily be rolled up and stored away when not in use.

Adjustable Weights

One of the most important pieces of equipment for The Body Coach 90 Day Plan is a good set of weights.

Granted, you won’t need these immediately as weights will be introduced in cycle two. However, using weights will have a positive influence on your body. Building lean muscle not only provides definition to your body but will encourage your body to burn more calories because muscle is more metabolically active.

You don’t have to buy flashy racks with weights up to 150kgs for the plan. It’s more advisable to invest in a set of adjustable weights like the ones here

I use this same set and they are fantastic. It’s very easy to swap the weights around and combine for a barbell if you’d prefer that for some exercises.

If you’re new to weight training, you can start off on a lower weight to get your body used to lifting and exercising with weights. Then each week slightly increase the weight to ensure you are pushing your body and building more muscle.

The main bonus of adjustable weights is that you can become stronger and lift heavier without needing to buy additional weights more frequently.

Conclusion

Starting The 90 Day Plan might seem a little daunting at first, but if you plan carefully you will see the best results.

Flashy gadgets won’t make you lose weight or build muscle but they can be essential in helping you achieve the best results from The 90 Day Plan.

I have listed out every piece of equipment for The Body Coach 90 Day Plan that you will need to save you a lot of time and hassle trying to gather the equipment you will need.
